Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about scalp micropigmentation and SMP INK? Here are some common questions we receive about the procedure, its benefits, and aftercare. Whether you're considering SMP for hair loss or scalp imperfections, we aim to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.

  • What does the treatment cost?

Cost for treatment is dependent upon the amount of hair loss you currently have. Some treatments can be less and some can be more depending on factors such as scars, alopecia, simple hairline repair, touch ups, etc.  We will work with every client's situation.  We offer military and first resonder discounts and financing. We also take all major credit cards.

  • Will anyone notice I had the treatment?

Scalp micropigmentation has become the #1 hair loss solution because of its natural and undetectable results. Most people, including family, can’t tell the difference from natural follicles and SMP follicles. SMP Ink prides itself on the ability to accurately replicate each individual hair follicle to create a perfect match for each client.

  • How many treatments will I need?

To achieve the most natural results, Scalp micropigmentation should NEVER be considered a one treatment process. Most clients, on average, can expect between 2-3 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. Some clients may require a 4th treatment. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart.

  • How long do the results last?

After completion of your treatments a client should expect the SMP to last for many years. Over time, a client may begin to notice "softening" of the treatment. When this occurs clients can undergo a brief “touch up” treatment to restore any softening to secure many more years of their SMP. Aftercare is an importannt part of protecting your investment and enjoying long lasting results.

  • Can scalp micropigmentation work for women?

Absolutely! SMP is an excellent alternative to wigs and other hair loss solutions. It creates the appearance of density on the scalp, providing immediate results and boosting confidence.
  • Do I need to take time off for the treatments?

Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 2-3 days post treatment. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats, should they feel the need, as long as they are not too tight or abrasive.

  • What kind of hairline will I have?

If you are unsure of what style or type of hairline will work for you, our practitioneer will be there to help. We will recommend a hairline based on your age, ethnicity, and style. Whether you want a cultivated or natural look, we can make it happen.

  • Do I have to shave all my hair off?

Depending upon the pattern and extent of the thinning hair, some clients are able to maintain a longer length of hair. Scalp pigmentation can help thicken areas so that less of the scalp is seen showing through. However, if there is a strong pattern of hair loss or just not a lot of hair density left, the client is recommended to crop it shorter.

  • Can Scalp Micropigmentation hide my scars?

Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scarring and blending the color around the scarring area, transplant and surgical scars can see massive improvement in concealment.

  • How bad is the pain?

For most of our clients, the pain is minimal and it’s consistently less painful than traditional tattoos. After your treatment, you won’t experience any further discomfort.

  • Can you have the treatment if you have gray hair?

Yes, those with gray hair can still benefit from the scalp micropigmentation procedure. First, most clients are recommended to cut their hair to a short buzzed length. When this is done, gray hair does not appear as gray because the hair root itself is darker. Hair only shows gray as it gets longer. Second, we use a gray-scale pigment that can be adjusted in shade to blend with lighter hair tones. We simply create a lighter dilution for blending into the existing gray hairs.

  • What equipment is used for a Scalp Micropigmentation?

The equipment used for a scalp treatment is considered micropigmentation or “permanent cosmetic” equipment. There are many different brands and designs of equipment. Our equipment is the best in the industry and includes a Medical grade digital power source, a hand-piece, and  disposable micro needles for the insertion of pigment. Most technicians of Scalp Micropigmentation use different equipment than standard tattoo artists to ensure the deposits are delicately placed at the appropriate depth in the skin giving you natural results.

  • Can I wear a hat after treatment?

Yes. The scalp may be a bit reddish for 2-3 days post treatment, so we recommend wearing a hat after treatment if you wish to conceal the redness.

  • Can the treatment change colors?

No. Scalp micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics, but unlike tattooing or permanent makeup, our pigment is designed to fall within the same color spectrum of short cut hair. The pigment contains no additional colorants or additives and will only soften. It will not turn blue or green over an extended time.
