Tips for Shaving Your Head

postlaunch • January 16, 2024

So, you’ve decided to join us bald bros, huh? Welcome to the party! Being bald is pretty great, but there is a slight learning curve when it comes to shaving your head. It takes some time to learn your “headscape” and not miss any hairs, so we have some tips for you.

How Often Should I Shave?

The average dude should shave their dome two to three times per week, but this advice should be taken in a “trial and error” manner. Every person is different, and how often you should shave is dependent mainly on your preference, but here are some things to consider:

Desired Smoothness

If you must have a super smooth cranium, consider shaving your head daily. If you prefer some stubble between shaves, consider waiting three to four days before shaving your head again.

The Time You Have

Shaving your head can be time-consuming, especially if you’re new to the bald band. Your scalp has a large surface area that may have bumps and crevices, so you have to practice learning to shave. You’ll naturally get better with time and be able to shave your head quickly without issue.

Men with a busy schedule may need more time to have their heads, so consider the stubble route OR have one of your shave days on your weekend to make it easier for you during the week. The type of razor you use will also influence how long it’ll take you to shave. Using a regular or straight razor will take longer than an electric shaver.

How Fast Your Hair Grows

The rate of hair regrowth varies from person to person. For a smooth look, some guys can get away with shaving every few days, while others have to shave daily. You should know how fast your hair grows back after two or three shaves.

Skin Sensitivity

Even if you prefer having a super smooth scalp, consider the health of your skin. If you have sensitive skin, you may not be able to shave daily without irritating or nicking your skin. Consider shaving every five to six days to give your scalp a break.

Razor/Shaver Quality

There is no substitute for a quality razor or shaver! Using a cheap razor or shaver, especially if you have sensitive skin, will put your scalp at risk for cuts, nicks, itching, and irritation. Here’s what to look for when searching for electric head shavers:

  • Wet VS Dry Shavers: Wet shavers cut hair very close to the scalp and can reduce irritation. Dry shavers are faster, but you may experience more irritation.
  • Battery Life: No one wants their shaver’s battery to die mid-shave, so look for a shaver with a long battery life. A shaver with a low battery indicator is a plus, so you know when it’s time to charge. Check out the FlexSeries electric shaver with a 90-minute battery life. It can be used wet or dry!
  • Water Resistance: Most durable head shavers are water resistant, which is helpful if you’re hoping to shave in the shower or when you want to rinse off leftover hair from the shaver. The Remington Balder Pro is 100% waterproof, so you can comfortably shave in the shower!
  • Price: A higher price tag doesn’t always mean a better shaver. Some shavers cost upwards of $100, but you should be able to find a solid one in the $50 to $60 range. Check out this highly-rated head shaver for only $50: AW 6D Shaver.
